What Are My Options After Losing Teeth?

There are a few different options for restoring your smile after losing teeth, including dentures and dental bridges. But the best choice is a dental implant. Implants last the longest, protect your oral health, look and feel natural, and will never shift or move. They also require minimal special care.
For all of these reasons, we highly recommend dental implants at Willow Dental. While they are more expensive than the alternatives, they are worth the investment. Contact us now to see if you’re a good candidate for dental implants in New Berlin.

The Dental Implant And Restoration Process

To begin the process, Drs. Jake Jacomet or Nicholas Dwanwill examine your mouth. They will determine if you’re a good candidate, and if you need any pre-treatment oral surgeries like tooth extractions or bone grafting before you get an implant.

At your next appointment, Drs. Jake Jacomet or Nicholas Dwan will place your dental implant using a detailed surgical plan developed after your initial consultation. Each implant will be placed into the gum and jaw tissue, then sanitized and sutured to heal.

It only takes a few weeks for initial healing to take place, but it takes up to 3-6 months for your implant to completely and permanently attach to your jaw bone. You will need to be patient, and come into our office for follow-ups during this time.

During your follow-ups, we’ll build your implant restoration, such as a dental crown. Once your mouth has healed, you will come back for a final appointment. Drs. Jake Jacomet or Nicholas Dwan will place the restoration and restore your smile.

Single-Tooth Implants

Single-tooth implants are, by far, the most common type of implant. They are meant as an alternative to dental bridges and partial dentures. They consist of one dental implant, which acts as an artificial tooth root. To this implant, a dental crown is attached to function as a false tooth.

Because they imitate the natural design of the tooth, single-tooth implants look, feel, and function just like real teeth. They require no special care beyond brushing, flossing, and a healthy lifestyle, and they can easily last 30+ years.

Full-Arch Implants

Looking for an alternative to dentures? Full-arch implants are a good choice. In this procedure, a series of 4-6 implants will be surgically placed into the upper arch, lower arch, or both arches of your teeth. These implants heal and bond with the jaw bone.

Then, a permanent or removable set of implant-supported dentures is attached to the implants once they have healed. These implants lock the dentures in place, preventing them from moving and slipping. Full-arch implants last longer, feel more natural, and require less care than traditional dentures, to name just a few benefits.
